María Denisse Jiménez Malespín

President and Curator, St. Lawrence University Class of 2019

María Denisse is an international student from Nicaragua who studied at the United World College Costa Rica for two years before attending St. Lawrence University. There, she developed her passion for economics, photography, and cultural sharing and understanding. In addition, she worked as one of the official photographers for TEDxUWCCR events in 2014 and 2015. Currently she is a senior student with an International Economics & Spanish combined major and minors in Mathematics and Caribbean and Latin American Studies.

Josie Brown

Vice-President, Curator, St. Lawrence University Class of 2019

Josie Brown is a member of the class of 2019 and is majoring in Government. On campus, in addition to taking part in the TEDxStLawrenceU team, she is a junior executive board member of the Thelomathesian Society, St. Lawrence University’s student government. Josie is also the former vice-president of Chi Omega’s; one of the sororities present on campus.

Julia Wagner

Curator, St. Lawrence University Class of 2020

I am a junior majoring in Psychology and Performance and Communication Arts. I am on the SLU Varsity Volleyball team and Track and Field team. In addition to being a part of TEDx StLawrenceU, I am a trained advocate and a justice on the student judiciary board. I spent this past summer studying abroad in Rome, Italy where I studied neuroscience. Some of my favorite things in the world are my friends, the tv show Friends, my dog, and the ocean.

  

Sarah Vogel

Media & Communication Director, St. Lawrence University Class of 2019

Sarah is a member of the class of 2019 and is majoring in History.  When she isn’t reading about the 19th century, you can find her rocking climbing, bike riding, and waiting for warm, sunny weather.  She is the Director of Marketing for St. Lawrence’s chapter of Chi Omega and previously served on their executive board for two years.  She hopes to spend her post-grad life in her hometown, Boston, Massachusetts, attending as many championship parades as possible. She is passionate about dogs, national parks, historical accuracy, and aesthetically pleasing instagram layouts.

Carlos Arriaga Serrano

Director of Logistics, St. Lawrence University Class of 2019

I am a senior student at St. Lawrence University, double majoring in Government and Multi-Language (French, German, and Italian) and double minoring in European Studies and Arabic Studies. Carlos graduated from United World College Costa Rica where, in 2015, he was the Logistics, Sponsorships, and Outreach Coordinator for the second edition of TEDxUWCCR. He has always been passionate about TEDx and the concept of sharing ideas.

Daria Alekseeva

Treasurer, St. Lawrence University Class of 2019

Daria is a member of the Class of 2019 from Moscow, Russia. At St. Lawrence University she studies economics and pursues her interests and passions for yoga, education and human development among others. Daria is an engaged student who participates in and contributes to various events on campus throughout the year. She also works as a Community Assistant. Daria has been an enthusiastic and valuable team member who helped  bring TEDx to St. Lawrence University.

Vivian Susko

St. Lawrence University Class of 2020

Vivian is currently a junior at St. Lawrence, pursuing a double major in English and Business with a minor in educational studies. She also serves as a captain for the volleyball team, a trained member of the advocates program, an editor for the Underground journal, and was recently elected to serve as next year’s president for the Omicron Delta Kappa honors society. Vivian’s passion for investigative journalism and education has led her overseas to Slovakia, where she spent the last summer researching the Communist revolution and teaching English in a kindergarten. She hopes to return this summer to continue her research.

Jessica Sierk

Faculty Advisor

Jessica Sierk is an assistant professor in the department of education. She earned her PhD in Social Analysis, Educational Policy and Reform from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2016. She has been a member of the faculty at St. Lawrence, teaching a variety of classes related to social justice education, since fall 2016. She joined the TEDxStLawrenceU team in fall 2018 and is excited for her first TED experience!
